St. Chapelle and the Conciergerie

St. Chapelle is known for its stained glass windows and the Conciergerie was the prison which kept all of the prisoners of the French Revolution before they were sent to the guillotine.  We found Marie Antoinette's cell, apart from the rest with her own courtyard, most interesting.

Robespierre, who sent thousands to the guillotine, many innocent of his charges, turned on one of the revolution's heroes, Georges Jacques Danton, and had him beheaded.  "Show my head to the people, it is worth seeing," Danton said.  Little did Robespierre conceive that Madame Guillotine would someday be his fate, too.
