Mainz, Germany

Still jet-lagged (add to that only an hour and a half sleep the night before we flew over) so no energy to write any "creative" captions.  We are in Mainz only two days before Paris.  Tomorrow we take the train to Gare de l'Est and make our way to meet our third roommate for the St. Germain apartment.

I'll just share some photos and not tell the story of how I asked the young man in the crisp, white shirt in front of the hotel dining room all kinds of questions about the menu, only to find out he wasn't connected with the restaurant at all, just waiting for his travel mate to meet him.  All of us laughing, I asked him why he came over when I looked at him if he wasn't the host/maitre d.  "You looked like you wanted to talk to me," he said.

At least we started out our trip with a good laugh.

My room

The Hyatt Regency is attached to an old fort and its turret is just outside my window between the Rhine and me.

And my favorite thing so far.  (I should've bought it.)
